A LIVING ARCHIVE

Contribute to Our Archive

The history of the Wychwoods is still being written.

Photographs taken today, family memories, documents kept in drawers, stories passed down through generations and original research can all help build a fuller picture of life in the Wychwoods.

We welcome contributions relating to Ascott-under-Wychwood, Milton-under-Wychwood, Shipton-under-Wychwood and the surrounding area.

What can I contribute?

You are welcome to contact us about:

  • Historic photographs, postcards and other images
  • Memories of people, places, businesses and events
  • Family or local history research
  • Documents, letters, programmes, notices and other records
  • Information that helps identify people or places in photographs already in our collection
  • Photographs or records of more recent changes in the Wychwoods

You do not need to decide whether something is historically significant before contacting us.
If you think it may be of interest, we would be pleased to hear about it.

You do not have to give away the original

In many cases we may simply be able to scan or photograph an item and return the original to you.

If you have material you would like us to consider, tell us a little about it using the form. Please include as much background information as you know.

A note about original material

Every contribution helps us preserve a little more of the Wychwoods’ story.

Copyright and Permissions

When you share material with the Society

We are grateful to everyone who contributes photographs, documents, memories and other material to the Wychwoods Local History Society archive.

By submitting material to the Society, you confirm that, to the best of your knowledge, you are entitled to share it with us, or that you have the necessary permission to do so.

Copyright remains with the copyright holder. Submitting material does not transfer ownership or copyright to the Wychwoods Local History Society.

By making a submission, you give the Society permission to preserve the material and to use, reproduce and publish it for the Society’s historical, educational and charitable purposes. This may include publication on our website, in exhibitions, Society publications, talks and other archive-related activities.

Where appropriate, we will record information about the source, photographer, creator or copyright holder. Please tell us if there is a particular credit that should accompany the material.

Not sure who owns the copyright?
Please don’t let that prevent you from contacting us. With older photographs and documents, ownership is not always clear. Tell us as much as you know about where the material came from and we can consider it with you.

Please also tell us if material contains personal or sensitive information, or if there are any restrictions that you believe should apply to its use. The Society reserves the right to decide whether submitted material is appropriate for inclusion in its archive or publication.

If you believe that material published by the Society infringes your copyright or has been incorrectly attributed, please contact us so that we can investigate.
