Our programme

Our Evening Talks

The Society meets regularly from September to May, with a programme of nine evening talks each season.

Speakers include historians, researchers, authors, archaeologists and specialists with knowledge of subjects connected with the Wychwoods and the wider history of Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds.

Some talks focus closely on our three villages — Ascott-under-Wychwood, Milton-under-Wychwood and Shipton-under-Wychwood — while others place their history within a much broader setting.

Each evening offers an opportunity to discover something new, meet others interested in local history and learn more about the Society’s work.

Members attend evening talks free of charge. Visitors and non-members are very welcome.

You do not need to be a member to attend our talks. Visitors are warmly welcomed throughout the season.

More Than a Programme of Talks

Our events are part of the Society’s wider purpose: to research, record and share the history of the Wychwoods.

A talk may introduce a subject that can then be explored further through our written articles, historic photographs, publications, oral history recordings or archive collections.

The programme also provides an opportunity for members and visitors to share knowledge, identify photographs, exchange memories and contribute to the continuing story of the Wychwoods.

Looking Back

The Society has welcomed a wide range of speakers and subjects over the years.

Our records of previous programmes provide a fascinating picture of the subjects that have interested members and of the research undertaken into the Wychwoods and their surroundings.

You can also read reviews of talks from previous seasons and revisit some of the themes explored through the Society’s programme.
